2024/02/27 15:02 pm

Many times, a human finds opportunity even in tragedy. It was in such a situation that Kainaj Messman Harachandrai found an opportunity. At the young age of 24, she became a victim of an accident, after which she went on bed rest.

Kainz Messmann was a trained pastry chef with a passion for her craft. After completing her studies at The Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Mumbai, and Oberoi Center of Learning and Development (OCLD), Delhi, she worked at Oberoi Udaivilas in Udaipur. She loved her work very passionately, but doctors said you could no longer become a chef as this requires a whole day of standing and you can’t.

Now she could not do what she loved, but she challenged the challenging circumstances. From here Kainaz launched a remarkable entrepreneurship venture with his sister Tina Messman Wykes. They borrowed ₹ 1 crore from their father and started Theobroma in 2004.

In less than 2 decades, Theobroma has become a culinary powerhouse with over 125 outlets in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, NCR, Pune, Hyderabad, and Bangalore. Theobroma is today feeding the entire nation brownies, cakes, desserts, chocolates, breads, vermicelli, etc. Theobroma earned a revenue of ₹ 375 crore in 2023-24 and in FY 2024-25 they are targeting a revenue of ₹ 600 crore with 200 outlets.
